BEYOND THE SHELF – Behind the Scenes of ETERNAL ENCORE
Welcome to BEYOND THE SHELF on
SHANNON MUIR’S THE PULP AND MYSTERY SHELF!
BEYOND THE SHELF is general commentary about the blog or the mystery and crime writing business by author and site administrator Shannon Muir that doesn’t fall in the scope of a regular column. These are special columns running at the end of the year. The topic today gives a little insight behind the main story contained in the new anthology ETERNAL ENCORE.
ETERNAL ENCORE began life as a screenplay in around the year 2000. The science in it was cutting edge at the time, mixed with a romance story and a bit of a B-movie feel. However, technology advances fast and soon it far outdated itself, especially in the areas of (small spoiler) prosthetic and robotics.
I still loved the character story very much, and did attempt to modernize the tech for the movie, but it didn’t work.
So, when I started to release short stories and such on the web, I realized that ETERNAL ENCORE’s storyline was very much a modern pulp piece in its original form. I finessed it to make it clear it takes place in the year 2000 versus just setting the feel as present day, and decided to release it as originally conceived but in a prose form. I hope people enjoy it.
As one of the lead characters also sings, it allowed me to also use my poetry background to create her “lyrics,” which I always find to be great fun.
Consider picking up ETERNAL ENCORE today at major e-book retailers and take a look for yourself. You’ll get this story, plus e-book convenient versions of several other tales that previously debuted on SHANNON MUIR’S THE PULP AND MYSTERY SHELF to re-read whenever you want.
It’s available now for Kindle, Nook, Kobo, Apple Books, Scribd, and also at Smashwords.
